Oral Surgery
When oral health complications require surgery, you want the most skilled and experienced surgeon to provide treatment that meets your specific needs.
Oral surgery is performed by an oral and maxillofacial surgeon or periodontist, and can consist of anything related to the gums, jaw, facial structure, or teeth.
Our dentists are both qualified and skilled in performing oral surgeries, and their ultimate goal is to improve your quality of life in any way they can.
Types of surgeries performed at the State Avenue Dental Office:
Tooth extraction
Bone Graft
Implant
From the initial consultation to the healing process, We will walk with you every step of the way.
Tooth Extraction
While the goal is always to save a permanent tooth whenever possible, there are some cases in which a tooth extraction is necessary. An initial consultation with our doctors will help to determine whether or not you will need a tooth extraction.
Reasons for an extraction can include:
Oral trauma
Severe tooth decay
Impacted tooth
Mouth crowding or extra teeth
Periodontal or gum disease
Wisdom tooth removal
During the extraction, the jaw, tooth, and gums will be numbed before the dentist skillfully removes the tooth. The number of teeth being removed will determine the amount of time spent in the office. All extractions are out-patient procedures and in most cases can be done in the same appointment. The healing process will be monitored closely by our doctors, and steps should be taken in order to heal fully and properly.
Bone Graft
Bone grafting is often necessary before a dental implant or if you have areas of bone loss due to disease or injury.
A bone graft is repairing and rebuilding the jawbone through the transplant of bone tissue, adding volume and density where bone loss has occurred. The tissue may be taken from your own body (autograft), a donor (allograft), or can be synthetic.
When done correctly, the bone graft will fuse with the natural bone, completing the structure of the jaw.
Our doctors will evaluate your jaw structure to determine whether or not you need a bone graft. During your bone graft procedure, an incision will be created to reach the bone that requires grafting. The bone is then cleaned of all diseased tissue, the graft is applied, and stitches are used to close the incision site.
Healing time will vary as the new bone tissue grows and regenerates, and will be closely monitored by our providers and team.
A bone graft may be recommended for the following:
Tooth extraction
Dental implant
Before dentures: rebuilding jaw
If you have areas of bone loss due to gum disease or injury/trauma.
